What each credential actually means.
Attorneys should not have to guess at physician certifications. Here is what each one signifies, in plain terms.
A fully licensed physician degree, equivalent to an MD in scope of practice, licensure, and board certification. Osteopathic physicians complete the same residency training and specialty boards.
A graduate business degree. In a clinical-legal context it reflects formal training in operations, systems, and data analysis, which is directly relevant to department-level and systems-failure questions.
A credential for physicians in healthcare leadership. It reflects formal training and examination in medical management, quality, and administration, awarded through the American Association for Physician Leadership.
A certification focused on utilization review, medical necessity, and quality-of-care determinations. It reflects daily, structured analysis of medical records against accepted guidelines, awarded through the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
Available nationwide. Licensed in 12 states.
Availability and licensure are stated separately and precisely, with no implication of licensure in all fifty states.
Experience beyond the bedside.
Leadership and physician advisor roles built a discipline of analyzing records and writing defensible determinations. This experience strengthens record review. It is presented as analytical experience, not as clinical emergency medicine practice.
